The versatile Niro family has won three awards in the Diesel Car & Eco Car Top 50, taking home Best Hybrid, Best Plug-in Hybrid and Best Medium Electric Car. It also came in at position 23 on the list of the Top 50 new cars.
The Niro is available with three alternative fuel powertrains; hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric. The first model of the Niro family, the Niro HEV is capable of fuel economy of up to 58.9mpg. With the ability of travelling up to 36 miles on battery power alone, the Niro PHEV delivers low-cost, high-efficiency motoring in a stylish crossover package. The award winning fully electric e-Niro now comes in a three grade line-up offers up to 282 miles and three-phase charging.
Ian Robertson, DieselCar & EcoCar Editor commented on the Niro’s wins: “For anyone who thinks alternative fuel cars like the Prius and Leaf look too quirky, the Niro makes a great alternative thanks to its on-trend SUV styling. Hidden under its bodywork are hybrid, plug-in hybrid or all-electric powertrains, and each of them are best of the breed. A mid-life update earlier this year brought modest tweaks to the exterior, together with a significant uplift in quality inside the cabin. We love the Niro for its roominess, its affordability and high equipment levels, not to mention the comprehensive seven-year warranty.”
Elsewhere on the list, the popular Sportage placed at number 14 and was Kia’s highest ranking model in the Top 50. The Sportage was praised for its equipment, pricing and engines. The Ceed was at number 22 for its stylish design, long list of standard kit and low running costs, while the ProCeed was applauded for it striking design and boot capacity, coming in at number 32.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia Motors UK) Ltd. commented: “Having such a diverse product range to suit all our customer needs is and asset we and our dealer network partners thoroughly enjoy. It’s particularly humbling when our products are recognised by high profile UK awards and seeing so many of our products ranked highly in the Diesel Car and Eco Car Top 50 again in 2020 is a true testament to the popularity and quality of our vehicles.”
